Swift News: Xcode Agentic Coding, AI Anxiety, iOS 26 Adoption, Micro-Interactions

February 13th, 2026

I recently launched a small menu bar app that cleans up all the storage that Xcode builds up over time. I'd love for you to check it out and let me know what you think. More details at the bottom of this email.

Xcode 26.3 includes agentic coding

With the release of Xcode 26.3 (Currently a Release Candidate and not official yet), you can now use Claude Agent and OpenAI's Codex directly in Xcode. The best part is that these agents can build your project in Xcode, look at your Preview to verify their UI work, and have access to Apple's documentation and the latest WWDC videos. This is a HUGE addition to Xcode and it's not even WWDC yet. Apple also released a short summary video and a longer code along video on YouTube.

iOS 26 Adoption Rate

iOS 26 and Liquid Glass has been devisive. A lot of people aren't upgrading because they don't like Liquid Glass, and as of mid-February iOS 26 adoption is around 66%. This article is Telemetry Deck's current breakdown of iOS versions on devices.

AI Anxiety

With the recent improvements in agentic coding with Claude and Codex, a lot of developers are feeling uneasy (myself included). I don't believe developers will be extinct, but there's no doubt our jobs and industry is going through an upheaval and no one knows what this will look like on the other side.

iOS Dev is the Safest Bet?

This article has a take that I agree with. With the improvement in AI tools, almost anyone can build a basic app now. However, not everyone can build a GREAT app, which is what the Apple ecosystem thrives on. So that's how you differentiate yourself in this new world of apps. The bar has been raised. Learn the craft of building amazing, high-quality apps and that should serve you well.

Little Details

To help inspire you to hone your craft and build amazing apps, this website showcases tons of little animations and micro-animations. It's the little details like this that will set your app apart and feel high-quality.

Eraser: Cleaner for Xcode

Xcode builds up gigabytes of storage over time. Eraser saves you time and easily cleans up Derived Data, Project Archives, and Device support. You can manually delete these from a convenient menu bar app, or you can set up intelligent automations so you don't even have to think about it.

Till next time,

Sean

June 5th, 2026 As you may have seen, I recently joined the team at Bitrig (from the co-creators of SwiftUI at Apple). My role there is a mix of content and engineering, but mostly content to help teach developers how to get the most out of the platform. This also means Swift News will be more regular for the foreseeable future. It will be released (roughly) once every two weeks. I'm pumped for this next chapter 😀.
