WWDC, Apple Design Awards, Mentorship, Slow the F Down, Liquid Glass & More

June 5th, 2026

As you may have seen, I recently joined the team at Bitrig (from the co-creators of SwiftUI at Apple). My role there is a mix of content and engineering, but mostly content to help teach developers how to get the most out of the platform. This also means Swift News will be more regular for the foreseeable future. It will be released (roughly) once every two weeks.

I'm pumped for this next chapter πŸ˜€.

WWDC

It's the best time of year! WWDC is just a couple days away. The big rumor is that we'll finally get the big Siri overhaul. Let's see how they do. What are you most hopeful for from WWDC?

Bitrig Hackathon at WWDC

Join me at the Y Combinator offices in Mountain View on Wednesday, June 10th to hack on the new APIs announced at WWDC. Awesome judges and prizes that include $20K in OpenAI API credits (split between the winners), a guaranteed Y Combinator interview, and tickets to Startup School. This is gonna be good.

2026 Apple Design Award Winners

I share this article every year and say the same thing every year. If you're trying to build the best iOS app you can, download these ADA winners, play around with them, and take inspiration. They won an Apple Design Award for a reason. Learn from them.

Swift Mentorship Program

If you've never contributed to open source, but want to, the Swift Mentorship Program is for you. If accepted you'll be paired with a senior developer as a mentor to help you craft your first submission to an Apple open source project. Deadline for mentee's to apply is June 15th.

Slow the F Down

I'm sure many of us have become slightly addicted to coding agents and have maybe outsourced a little too much of our thinking to them. This article does a great job discussing that and showing how to properly use agents so we don't rely on them too much.

Talking Liquid Glass with Apple

Danny sat down with Apple’s Developer Relations and Design Evangelists team in NYC as part of a workshop to discuss Liquid Glass and it's future on Apple platforms. Check it out to learn more about Liquid Glass and where it's heading.

New App Store Connect Analytics

The new analytics in App Store Connect that were announced at last year's WWDC are finally live (as of about a month ago). There are over 100 new metrics to check out for your app's performance. I'm very happy with this addition.

Eraser: Cleaner for Xcode

Xcode builds up gigabytes of storage over time. Eraser saves you time and easily cleans up Derived Data, Project Archives, and Device support. You can manually delete these from a convenient menu bar app, or you can set up intelligent automations so you don't even have to think about it.

Till next time,

Sean

August 24th, 2026 Swift News - Video Version - Get my thoughts on the articles below. Critical Thinking & AI This is a great article about "cognitive surrender" when building with AI. I bet we've all dealth with that at one time or another. My favorite idea from this article is when Bruno talks about what value do you bring if all you do is pass along the result of the prompt? Because anyone can prompt now a days. Applying your critical thinking to the result is your value. Remember, it's AI...

July 17th, 2026 Swift News - Video Version - Get my thoughts on the articles below. Shipaton - $700K in prizes mobile hackathon It's Shipaton time! Every year RevenueCat hosts the largest online hackathon for mobile apps. The whole point is to encourage you to finally ship that side project or finally build that app you can't get out of your head. There are tons of prizes including your app on a digital billboard in Time Square in New York City. Bitrig: Build Native Swift Apps with AI Bitrig...

July 2nd, 2026 Swift News - Video Version - Get my thoughts on the articles below. iOS 27, Your App, and Siri Early reports suggest the new SiriAI is finally good enough to use in iOS 27. That means it's finally time to take App Intents and Siri support seriously in your app. My guess is that a lot of your users will be using the new SiriAI this fall, so your app needs to be ready. This article is a great starting point for getting started with SiriAI support in your app. Is...
